From ELL student to bilingual employee.

Mohammed Reza 1200x600
鈥淚mproving my English will give me the ability to help the greatest amount of people,鈥 Mohammed Reza.

Originally from Bangladesh, Mohammed Reza moved to the United States in 2008 with the belief that America would open the door to great opportunities and a wonderful educational experience. His main goal has been to work hard, support his family and eventually earn his law degree one day. Reza says mastering the English language is an important step.

"USA is the land of unique, modern education, science and technology," he said. "I want to learn English properly [because] English is a most communicative language and every person should learn it."

He currently works two jobs to support his wife and two children. Prior to moving to the United States, he spent several years teaching seven- and eight-year-old students and served as a job coach/recruiter in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He would like to improve his English skills so he can return to teaching and help others access community resources here in Maryland. Reza started taking English Basic Skills classes in the summer of 2017 and quickly progressed to take English for Academic Purposes in winter of 2018. He is enjoying taking high intermediate courses in Grammar, Reading and Listening. He knows that learning proper English will help expand his career opportunities.

A fan of poetry and history, Reza is always educating those around him. One of his favorite places to visit is the local library! Reza is a strong believer in the importance of people having access to education in their mother tongue and in other languages as a means of personal success and sustaining culture. In celebration of International Mother Language Day, he proudly wears customary Bengali clothing in honor of the Bengali Language Movement in Bangladesh of 1952.
